Throughout history music has been experimental and has pushed boundaries. As historical musicians we should never forget this. We also cannot - and would not want to - forget that we live in the modern world. Even engaging with history as we try to do is a modern innovation, so why always separate it from other modern innovations? Alongside our historical research we also experiment and look for ways to create programmes which embrace modern instruments and techniques, whether that is guitar effects, loop stations, or other digital art-forms.
